Magens Bay Beach, Saint Thomas, Caribbean

How to get there and where to stay?

Saint Thomas is not only among the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean, it is among the most beautiful destinations on planet Earth. That might sound like a tall-tale, but let me reassure you, Saint Thomas is breathtaking in nearly every way imaginable. From it’s lush greenery to the white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, Saint Thomas is truly a sight to behold. If you are considering Saint Thomas as your next holiday destination, then take a moment to read this list of all the essential things you should be doing, seeing, and tasting while you are there. So, let’s explore the island of Saint Thomas!

Attractions and Landmarks

The island  is home to some of the most stunning beaches, historic sights, and panoramic views in the world. Here are just a few sights that you should make a point to see when you are there.

Drake’s Seat is the famous spot where legend says Sir Francis Drake stood in order to spot enemy Spanish ships. The view here offers visitors stunning visuals of the U.S Virgin islands, and nearly everywhere on the island of St. Thomas itself.

The main city in Saint Thomas is Charlotte Amalie. Within the heart of the city, is the historic district. This area is filled with preserved colonial buildings, and historic sights to explore and see. You will be transported back in time as soon as you step into this gorgeous historic landmark of a neighbourhood.

On the northeastern side of the island, you will find Coki Point Beach. This small, secluded beach is calm and away from much of the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. Here you will find waters as clear as glass, and serene views that are sure to blow your mind.

There are an untold number of activities, and things to do on the island; St. Thomas is an adventurers paradise! Here are just a few activities that you should take part in when you are
there.

Water Adventures
Being an island, there are countless adventures that you can engage in on the waters. For example, you can take guided snorkelling trips; you can go parasailing; after that you can surf or you can take island boat tours. The possibilities are endless out on the gorgeous warm waters of the Caribbean.

Entertainment and Food

Saint Thomas has a rather bustling bar & nightclub scene. Once your day has wined down, and you want to add a bit more excitement to your night, you can hit up downtown and explore the tons of bars and clubs the island has! For example some of my personal favourites are Down The Road, and The Box Bar.

Shopping
The island is home to literally hundreds of duty-free shops that line the streets. You can take advantage of tax free shopping while you are there!

Saint Thomas plays host to all types of cultures and nationalities visiting every year and because of that the cuisine is equally diverse. You will be able to find nearly any type of food you could ever want. However, here are a couple of native dishes for you to try when you are there.

Fungi
Fungi is a sort of Caribbean version of polenta. It is a mashed and cooked cornmeal that is usually served as a side to a main dish. It is super delicious, and you are likely going to see a lot of it when eating in St. Thomas!

Bull Foot Soup
This is exactly what it sounds like. It is a vegetable soup made with local spices, and a slow cooked cow’s heel. The cows heel becomes delicately tender, and all of the unique flavors melt together to create a truly exotic and one-of-a-kind Caribbean delicacy.

Pate
Pate is one snack you will find yourself munching on every day as you explore the island. It is essentially a Caribbean version of an empanada. That is, fried dough filled with meat. They are delicious, and easy to grab on-the-go!
