Antigua Caribbean Island Beach Sun Sea Vacation Holiday Travel

How to get there and where to stay?

Antigua is one of the most popular travel destinations in the Caribbean. At just 108 sq mi. (281 sq. km) in size. The entire island can be seen in just the span of a few days. I have had the unique opportunity to really sink my teeth into the Antigua experience, and see everything there is to see while I was there.

Antigua is home to a rich, and somewhat dark history. That is paired alongside the vibrant local culture and cuisine. It truly is a place unlike any other I have seen. While the island is small, the experience is rather big. I have listed below few things that I believe everyone is going to want to see and experience while is there.

Antigua is home to 365 unique beaches. Each one as stunning as the last, and one for each day of the year. The beaches are the primary reason that visitors from all over the world make the trip. So, when I visited the island,  I spent the majority of my time on the beach. I could never get enough of those amazing views.

Attractions and Landmarks

Meet A Stingray

Many island tours have chances to swim with sea turtles – Antigua has that too! However, not many offer you the unique chance to swim with stingrays. In Antigua, I found few tours that can load you up on a boat, and take you out to the famous Stingray City. This coral reef where southern stingrays are found en masse offers crystal clear waters and the chance to meet these “puppies of the sea”. Southern rays are known to be incredibly social, and sweet, and in Antigua you can meet one personally!

The Devil’s Bridge

The famous Devil’s Bridge is a natural limestone arch that has been formed above the crashing sea over hundreds of thousands of years. The reason I visited that place is because of the heart pounding view and exposure to the crashing waves of the ocean . If you are looking for a real daring adventure, I recommend a visit to the Devil’s Bridge.

Zipline Over The Jungle

If you are up for some fun, then Antigua Rainforest Zipline Tours can offer the chance to see the dense rainforests from an entirely new angle and therefore people can experience all different types of adventures. The tours include 45 minute long zipline tour and even 2.5 hour long full canopy tour. Ziplining throughout the jungles of Antigua is not something I am ever going to forget. So if you ever get the chance to try it, go for it. I am 100% sure you will have an unforgettable time.

Entertainment and Food

Antigua is famous for seafood, and their world famous rums. When I was in Antigua, I have had no shortage of exotic foods and drinks to try. My tip – try some nice local coconut water and then have the jelly, it’s delicious, and much better than the store bought highly artificial stuff.

Rum

The island of Antigua was almost literally founded on rum trade. The island made rums are some of the best in the world, and you will have plenty of chances to try them. From unique cocktails, to even trying it straight, you will never try rum more delicious than Antigua rum.

Conch

Conch is a famous seafood option that is eaten widely across the island. It is the meat from the tiny shells that wash up on the shore, and has a texture reminiscent of clams. Conch is served cooked up in chowders, fritters, cavaches, and even raw. For instance, I am a seafood lover and will have conch cooked anyway.

Ducana

Ducana is a sweet and spicy dish similar to a tamale. It is made from wrapping sweet potatoes along with coconut and some spices in a banana leaf and steamed until soft. Ducana is the perfect snack to enjoy as a side with your dinner, or in hand as you explore the island.
